Soccer Goalie Training Tips

soccer goalie training tips :
Playing goalie on a soccer team can be stressful, because you are the last line of defense against the other team. Preseason is a great time to build your skills and confidence. It is a time to get your body in shape and work on the fundamentals of the position. Keep these training tips in mind to improve your physical and mental condition before the season starts.

Improve Your Vertical Jump

During your conditioning program, focus on building strength in your legs and improving how high you can jump. Having a good vertical leap allows a goalie to save shots that might otherwise be out of range.

Stay on Your Toes

During practice and games, you want to stay agile and on your toes. Bend your knees slightly and do not plant your feet into the ground. While this may wear you out at first, it will allow you to move at a moment's notice. Soccer games can change in an instant, and the goalie needs to be ready.

Pull the Ball in Tightly

During soccer goalie training, make sure that you are pulling the ball into your body when you make a safe. Holding the ball close to your chest ensures that the opposing players will not be able to knock it away after you make the catch.

Practice Your Kick

It is important that a goalie be able to get the ball back into play quickly. Practicing your kick is one of the most important parts of training. It is more important to be precise than to have the most powerful kick. If you can get the ball to the feet of one of your teammates, they might be able to make a big play.

Site Manager - JB I'm a Chelsea supporter and overall fan of the game, regardless of the county it's played in. I've been playing the beautiful game since I could walk and currently reside in Austin, TX with my wife and daughter.

I'm also a proud supporter of Austin's new USL-First Division team, the Aztex.
