How to Play a Soccer Video Game

Overview

EA Sport's FIFA series of soccer video games is the most popular series of console soccer games available. FIFA is a fun game to play, but scoring goals can prove to be difficult for a beginning player, particularly with the difficulties the game's default cameras can create in the shooting game. Fortunately, there is an effective strategy that can be used to score vital goals as you get used to the game and develop a more diverse attack.

Step 1

Go down the field in the attacking zone as a midfielder or wing down the flank.

Step 2

If you have the ball with a central player, dribble closer to the sideline as you approach the 18-yard box, then attempt to slot a "throughball" behind the defender to a wing player.

Step 3

If you have the ball with a wing player, attempt to beat the defender with a skill move or speed burst when he attempts to steal the ball.

Step 4

Progress your run toward the endline, and if possible, angle your run toward the goal as well. While a cross from the corner still can be effective, the closer to goal you bring the ball, the better your chances are.

Step 5

As you near the endline, send a chip pass across the goal toward the 6-yard box on the far post, where a teammate should be making a run.

Step 6

Switch to the player receiving the cross and aim a header at the goal. Be sure to only apply a slight touch to the shooting button to avoid overpowering the shot. The cross likely will leave you with an empty net to finish in, so it's more important to be on target than it is to strike the ball with full power.

Site Manager - JB I'm a Chelsea supporter and overall fan of the game, regardless of the county it's played in. I've been playing the beautiful game since I could walk and currently reside in Austin, TX with my wife and daughter.

I'm also a proud supporter of Austin's new USL-First Division team, the Aztex.
