As a Liverpool fan, I am loathe to admit Manchester United’s superior form at the moment. They are playing unbelievable soccer and I don’t think a loss to Hotspurs is possible. Looking at the cold, hard facts it seems Harry Redknapp’s side might as well stay home.
Manchester United have already played the Hotspurs twice this year. In their first Premier League meeting, the Hotspurs squeaked by with a 0-0 draw. In their second meeting, during the FA Cup, they would not be so lucky. A 2-1 victory knocked the Hotspurs out of the competition.
Tottenham have two weapons that they cannot use during the Carling Cup, Robbie Keane and Jermaine Defoe. Two amazing forwards who will be watching from the stands. Robbie Keane is cup-tied and cannot play, a consequence of his brief and miserable time at Liverpool. Defoe isn’t cup-tied, merely out injured until Easter.
I know it sounds like I am writing the Hotspurs off, but I am a realist. I want the Hotspurs to win. I believe on April 25th Manchester will be beaten at Old Trafford. The Hotspurs current trouble is their lack of leadership on the field. Without a star player wearing the captain’s armband some players won’t listen. The Hotspurs have talented, but egotistical players that need to realize the threat of relegation. The player that understands that threat the best spent a majority of the season with one of the best teams in the world.
Bentley needs to focus on his game instead of running his mouth. Pavyuchenko needs to learn to assist as opposed to score. It was painful to watch him shank shots that should have been passed during the Arsenal game. What could turn the tide this Sunday?
Players who want the team to win and will challenge every 50-50 ball. The talent to beat Manchester United exists, but it needs to come together. They need daring and chemistry, something they have lacked all season long.
What are your thoughts?
